7. First Emotional Response. When asking someone a question look at their face for their initial emotional response. If they smile while telling you bad news, that is a good indicator of their real emotional responses. If someone keeps their emotional response in tune with their verbal reaction they may be truthful.
8. If someone is shaking their head while being asked a question, before the question or during it, this is a good sign that they are telling the truth. If they have this response after the question is asked the may be lying. The same applies to gestures, if they are replying negatively and make hand motions AFTER making their point then there is a good chance they are lying. Also not moving the head while accentuating points is a good indicator of deceit.
9. Head and Body posture. Someone who is lying will generally try to move away from the source of accusation. This can include walking away from them, shifting their body to the side or even just moving their head away. These are all signs that the subject is uncomfortable and may be lying. Tilting of the head however is a sign of interest, and generally is not a sign that the person is lying to you.
10. Position in a room. If someone is lying to you, they generally will have their back to the wall, or be facing an exit from the room. This is an unconscious decision that our body make when it feels threatened.
11. Touch. If the subject is distant from you and unwilling to make contact this shows that they are uncomfortable and want to distance themselves from you.
12. Finger Pointing. Someone telling the truth may point a finger either at you or up in the air, this is generally not done by someone who is trying to be deceitful or lying.
13. If the person uses some sort of barrier between you and them it shows unconsciously that they want to form a barrier between themselves and the source of their discomfort. This can include something small like a cup, or maybe even a piece of paper.
14. Words. The words that the person you are questioning chooses to use can a reflection into whether they are being truthful or not. If they parrot back the words you use, you may want to take more notice of them. Using the same type of phrasing as the question may be an indicator of guilt.
15. Silent Treatment. If you give someone the silent treatment and they keep trying to engage you in conversation this may be a warning sign. The liars are uncomfortable in silence.
16. Implying an answer without giving it. Not out and out stating a definitive answer when the person normally does so can be an indicator that they are lying to you.
